In 2013, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development conducted surveys all across the world to chart the wage gaps between countries. OECD found that full-time female workers in Denmark made 5.8% less than their male counterparts, in Norway 7.1% less, in Iceland 9.9% less, and in Sweden 13.4% less. All Scandinavian countries fell under the OECD world average of 14.4%. In addition, The World Economic Forum rankings for their Gender Gap Annual Report puts Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden as positions 1, 2, 3 and 5 respectively (Rwanda sits at #4), with Denmark ranked 14th. Of all gendered gaps worldwide, health and education gaps have largely been closed (96% and 95%, respectively), while only 53% of the economic participation gap has been closed.

We warmly invite you to join us in person for a lunch-to-lunch conference in Oslo, Norway on December 2022. As we learn more and more about gloves we also learn that all hands are different. Some people have long skinny fingers and slim wrists, others have wide hands with short fingers.

We will hear the perspectives of both migrant women and from experts in different panels. Scandinavia has been considered progressive overall in the area of LGBTQI+ rights, with Sweden leading the way. In particular, Sweden has been a world leader in trans rights and is the first country in the world to allow people to legally change their gender after sex-reassignment surgery. Since 1987, workplace discrimination against LGBTQI+ people has been illegal in Sweden. In addition, Denmark was the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage, and workplace discrimination on the basis of sexuality has been illegal since 2004. Although these protections do not, of course, mean that discrimination doesn’t occur, they are an indication of both legal and social progress at the very least.

The seemingly chaotic, spontaneous, yet so vastly advanced and intelligent creativity in nature from which life itself grows. We have been listening deeply into source since the last gathering and one of the things that is wanting to come forth is our understanding of our feminine in relation to our masculine. This is for women already walking or who want to walk the edge of the deep mystery of the feminine power. Women who wish to understand themselves better across the spectrum of light and dark. Women who wish to unlock limiting beliefs hidden in our inner conditioning of our society, families and evolution.

In the U.S., we’ve evened the playing field in education, and women have good economic opportunities. But according to the WEF, American women lag behind men in terms of health and survival, and they hold relatively few political offices. Both facts become painfully clear every time a Tea Party politician betrays total ignorance of how the female body works. Instead of getting more women to participate in the political process, we’ve got setbacks like a new voter ID law in Texas, which could disenfranchise one-third of the state’s woman voters. That’s not going to help the U.S. become a world leader in gender equality. Refugee and immigrant women face a double disadvantage when settling in a new country in that they are both foreign-born and female.

While it’s not unusual to see light brown hair in the Scandinavian countries, seeing brown or other dark eyes is entirely different. Even though the gender pay gap in the Nordic countries is around the EU average, the gender pay gap is almost non-existent among politicians in the Nordic countries. For instance, women in central government positions in Sweden earn roughly the same as men in the same positions, and in Iceland, female senior government officials even earn more than their male counterparts. Furthermore, the Nordic countries are considered the best to work in for women in the world, with Sweden ranking highest. Viking society may have been a prime example of gender equality a millennium ago when women across much of Europe were not as highly valued as their male counterparts.

If you feel like something is bothering you, tell them so you can fix those issues. And if you feel like it’s time to part ways, don’t string them along for months because you don’t want to hurt their feelings. Although the Nordic region is progressive, tradition remains important in each country.
